Why a Coordinated Response Matters

With more than 65,000 Child Abuse Hotline calls received in Arkansas each year, an aligned approach is not optional. It's essential. 

When a child bravely speaks up, the response must be immediate and the adults who step in must be prepared, trained, and unified. Together, we create a safe path from disclosure to justice and healing.

Children’s Advocacy Centers of Arkansas (CACar) champions the state’s coordinated response to child abuse, helping ensure children and families across the state can access trauma-informed services at no cost.

 

By setting standards and strengthening a statewide network of 18 Child Advocacy Centers (CACs) and 64 Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs), CACar works to ensure that Arkansas children receive consistent, compassionate care where and when they need it most.

  • ​A Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is a safe, child-focused facility that uses a multidisciplinary approach to support children affected by abuse or neglect. Learn more.

  • A Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) is a collaborative group of professionals — including law enforcement, child protective services, medical/mental health experts and prosecutors — who work together to investigate, treat, and support children who have experienced abuse. Learn more.

  • Together, CACs and MDTs form a unified system that protects children, holds offenders accountable and supports families from first report to resolution. By providing a child-friendly, centralized space where MDTs can work effectively, CACs:

     

    • Reduce stress for children and families

    • Prevent or minimize trauma 

    • Ensure thorough evidence collection

    • Connect families to support more efficiently
